UPDATES

JULY 4TH, 2014:

First off, Happy 4th to all my US friends and now,
the newest update:

As previously posted, the Zoo was finally given the approval required by the Board to actually start building. This has given us new hope once again, with 2016 being the target year for the move to the new Zoo and, of course, the Grand Opening. With that in mind, and knowing how hard it is for our talented authors and artists and everyone else who donates items, to create, find, and try to get their donations to the winners, there will be NO AUCTION in 2014 or 2015. The only exception would be if the Zoo announces another "Sentinel Day" for 2015, of course. Otherwise, the next auction will take place a few months prior to the Grand Opening. This will give folks time to write, create, sew, find, save up - maybe even finish those brilliant stories your wonderful - and patient - readers have won in past auctions. *wags finger at self*

There is one part of our Annual Benefit that will continue - and that's the Animal Adoption. Right now, it's planned for later this summer. And remember, adopting an animal can be done easily and only costs $25 to help the Zoo care for the animal of your choice. Every year, I'm asked why certain animals seen at the Zoo aren't up for adoption and the answer is simple: Only those animals who can't be released into the wild, and thus will spend the rest of their lives at our Zoo, are in need of adopting.

Last update for July 4th, 2014: A wonderful senfen who is a huge fan of the Zoo - and of TS writers (which is why she's our archivist over at AO3) - shared a great idea that allows you to 'give' to our Zoo all year long. It's a site called Goodsearch. I heartily encourage those of you who shop online to click on the link and join. "Friends of the Big Bear Alpine Zoo" is already one of the registered charities, as you'll discover when you type in the Zoo's name when you register. Just remember not to type in Moonridge!! *G* It's now the Big Bear Alpine Zoo so don't forget! Once you've joined, simply use the site to reach your ultimate shopping webpage destinations, like Amazon, Overstock.com, etc.. This will allow all of your purchases to count toward money for the Zoo. Kind of like eBates. :)

Oh, and you might pass your thanks along to magician113. She was the wonderful senfen who told me about it!

Stay tuned to this page and/or alyburns for more information on the upcoming Adoptions for this summer. and any and all other Zoo news!

JUNE 6th, 2014:

GREAT NEWS!

IT'S FINALLY HAPPENING!

As mentioned in a previous Update, everyone at the Zoo has been waiting over a year for the San Bernadino Board of Supervisors to approve the relocation of the zoo - and in April, they finally did it!!!

YAHOO!!

Gale, the Office Manager for the Zoo, believes they'll actually break ground and begin the excavation process this year, with construction continuing through 2015. She further shared with me there's a good chance our Zoo will have its grand opening either by the summer or early fall of 2016 - and yes, she also said it would be great to tie in the 20th anniversary of The Sentinel's first episode with the Grand Opening!!

Gentle Brain Nudge: The Sentinel premiered on March 20, 1996, hence 2016 will mark the 20th anniversary of our beloved show

Start saving now, guys; save for the biggest, greatest Auction in our history (we'll run it two months prior to whatever opening date we're eventually given), and for, perhaps, that dream trip to California in 2016 to join in on the Grand Opening festivities with Garett and your fellow TS friends!!!

Please pass this one to all our TS senfen as well as any other fandoms who have joined us over the years in the auction and in the love and care of what will be, for us, the Moonridge Zoo! :)

For more information on the relocation, go directly to: Zoo's update page

_____________________________________________________________________________

OCTOBER 16th, 2013:

As of September 21st, the San Bernadino Board of Supervisors has still not put their stamp of approval on the breaking ground for the new Zoo. In fact, they've yet to have it included on the agenda. Stay tuned, though, as the FOBBZ (the non-profit group that raises money for the Zoo) is trying very hard to get this important issue on the agenda. When we know more, you'll know.

BIG News

Exciting news!. To all of the TS fans who've worked so hard for the Moonridge Animal Park (remember, it's now the Big Bear Alpine Zoo): the groundbreaking ceremony has taken place!

This news also means I apologize to everyone who've supported the Moonridge Auction in all its years, for my failure at keeping abreast of the zoo. I'd asked them to give me a head's up in order to organize the planned "Groundbreaking Ceremony Online Auction" prior to the ceremony, and sent another email back in January after reading at the site they'd hoped to start construction this spring, but I heard nothing, nor found any further updates - until I spotted the poster below after reading about one of the animals at the zoo (it was a comment from one of the past FOBBAZ presidents who followed our beloved Betsy)..this morning. 😡

I should have kept better tabs myself, especially since so many of the wonderful people at the zoo who worked with us over the years, are gone. I know how many of you wanted to attend the event as well, so again, I'm so sorry.

Initially we were told once construction began, it would take 18 months to two years to complete, so I promise to keep better tabs on the project so not only can we have the planned "Final Blast, Grand Opening Online Auction!", but you'll have time to prepare and save if you plan to attend! Cross my heart!

Again, my apologies for disappointing 😡, but so happy for the zoo that construction has begun!

News for Moonridge! UPDATE AS OF APRIL 2015

Two bits of news (good and not so good) for our beloved Big Bear Alpine Zoo (formerly known as Moonridge):

1. As of January, a building contractor was finally chosen: "PGAV Destinations has been selected for the design of the relocation of the Big Bear Alpine Zoo." And with that news came a 'tentative date' for breaking ground: October of this year. If they actually start in October, and construction is expected to take 18-24 months - that means that unless there's a miracle, 2017 is the earliest for the opening. But hey, that's something anyway.

2. The zoo's curator, and a women many of us have come to love, Debbie Richardson, has retired. I believe it was effective in February.
She must have given notice last year as the zoo has been posting for a new curator since November of last year. As of last month, Bob Cisneros became the new General Manager and Curator. He was, I believe, the curator for the San Diego Zoo for many years. I know every one who has been to "Moonridge" for the charity events will miss Debbie. :( Below is my favorite photo of Debbie from all the Moonridge events I've attended - and you can see why. :)

We'll miss you, Debbie!

IT'S NEVER OVER UNTIL IT'S OVER!

UNDER THE CUT, YOU'LL FIND THE ITEMS STILL OPEN OR UNCLAIMED. YOU CAN STILL DONATE TO MOONRIDGE BY GETTING ONE OF THE WONDERFUL ITEMS AND/OR BY CLAIMING SOMEONE ELSE'S 'WISH'. AND OF COURSE, YOU CAN STILL ADOPT! IF YOU'VE FORGOTTEN ANYTHING, LIKE HOW TO DO ANYTHING, FEEL FREE TO REVISIT THE FAQ.

Only items NOT under the cut are those Special Items that were available to "everyone who donates" a specific amount of money. If you're still interested in those, go to the WELCOME PAGE and then go to  PAGE 2 OF DONATED ITEMS. Animals are still here.

BTW: Stevie, the blind bunny, Captain Jack Sparrow, the lovely Kestrel and Lulubelle, the grand Golden Eagle, have been the least adopted animals.

REMINDER: For those who have made their choices, tomorrow, SATURDAY, JULY 14TH,  is the final payment date!

DEDICATION TO GARETT PROCEDURE - and information on "SPECIAL ITEMS UP FOR AUCTION" this year

PARTICIPANTS IN THIS 10th ANNIVERSARY MOONRIDGE AUCTION WILL HAVE A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY, NAMELY THE CHANCE TO SEND GARETT A SPECIAL 10TH ANNIVERSARY DEDICATION MESSAGE!

We're very lucky this year as the ending of the Moonridge Auction coincides with the first day of the 2013 GMOH ("Garett Maggart Over Here" fan con with Garett) event, which is taking place in Birmingham, England, the weekend of September 21st and 22nd. This provides auction participants the chance to send their "10th Anniversary Dedication Message" for Garett, which will be read/given to Garett at the GMOH event.

So how will this work? Process below:

1. There is a DEADLINE: 12:01am PST on Thursday, September 19th. Your dedication message MUST be included in an Auction email as follows:

  • If you put in for a Special Donated Item, a "Granting" a wish email, a First One-First Won email, or an Animal Adoption email, include your "10th ANNIVERSARY DEDICATION MESSAGE"

  • If you're BIDDING on an item/s, if you make a bid at all, include your "10th ANNIVERSARY DEDICATION MESSAGE"

  • IF you've already sent in any of the above and/or you're a current high bidder, don't wait -  SEND ME YOUR "10th ANNIVERSARY DEDICATION MESSAGE" NOW!

  • Please keep your message brief as time will be of the essence.

  • AND AGAIN: The Deadline for your "10th ANNIVERSARY DEDICATION MESSAGE" is Thursday, September 19th!

Thank you to Marj, who came up with this great idea!
And a huge THANK YOU to the GMOH ladies who make the GMOH event possible (Rae, G, and Janet)  for jumping on this particular band wagon!

1. Create your "Bid Email"
